If a family-run guesthouse is ok for you, you can easily find a bed for as little as 4-10 UDS. Of course,the service here is essential. If you wanna add the air-con (and you want, trust me) and maybe a private toilet in the room, be prepared to spend 15-20 UDS. These guesthouses or little hotels are generally cleaned and with a good level of security. The "receptions" are often opened 24 hours a day and it's not uncommon to see the hotel employees to sleep all together in the "lobby", on the couches or on amacas. A little advice: Siem reap is still a dusty city, and this reflect also on your sheets: don't expect them "extra white", they are always a little brown. No problem, they have been washed, it's just the climate to have this effect.When you arrive at the Siem Reap Airport, you will receive many proposal from local touts, offering a free ride to the city, where they show you their guesthouse/little hotel: if you like you can accept, else go on with the search. In this case be prepared to give a few dollars to the tout for the free ride.
If you want a higher level of confort, there are many mid-size hotels, 3 or 4 stars, ranging from 20 to 50 and more dollars a room per day. There are also luxury solutions, but in this case be prepared to spend 200-300 and more dollars a room per day.
We have prepared a little guide to the Guesthouses and Hotels of Siem Reap: far from being complete, it's a good place to start to have an idea of where you wanna stay. Remember that new places opens continuously, so now there are probably as many hotels and guesthouses as many temples in Angkor Wat!
Guesthouses:
- Popular Guesthouse: packed with backpackers, all the rooms have a private toilet, the rooms in the new wings are more modern, and includes T, hot water and air-con. A cheap but good restaurant on the roof complete the offer.- Red Lodge: located into a modern villa, this guesthouse offers free breakfast and the possibility to rent bikes: you can choose between rooms with fan or rooms with air con.
- Royal Hotel: one of the oldest in town, offers a wide choice of rooms and a really good value for the money; with 12-14UDS you can have hot water, air-con and a even a fridge in your room.
- Mommy Guesthouse: family-run, really friendly and cozy place, cheap: each room have a fan and a bathroom.
- Hello Guesthouse: this one is really cheap, simple rooms with shared bath and fan cost 3-5 UDS per day, while the air-con will raise the price up to 8 UDS. A great bargain.
- Naga Guesthouse: an old wooden house hosts the oldest guesthouse in town. The service is simple, no air-con, just fan rooms. They also have a little restaurant, and a pool table to relax with others backpackers.
- Earthwalkers: run by 2 young danish men, it's a great place to get advice. The prices are about 10-15 UDS, but the quality is higher: you will get a perfectly cleaned room, and the breakfast is included. International atmosphere.
- Angkor Thom Hotel: this is a cheap 2 stars hotel, and still the prices are really good (10 - 15 USD): for this money you get hot water, private bath, fridge and satellite tv. This one is located to the east bank of the river.
- Garden Village: this one is a little bit out of the town, not so far, but enough to make you feel a world away. It has a pretty little restaurant in the garden, and the prices are cheap, 3 - 12 UDS per room per night.
Mid Range Hotels
- Molly's Malone Guesthouse: located close to the old market and the bar area, this is a little bit more expensive than the others, ranging from 25 to 45 UDS. This is not properly an hotel, is more the prolongation of the Irish Pub with the same name. It has a few rooms, each one is unique and offer a good comfort. It's almost hotel quality, a step further than a guesthouse.- Bopha Angor Hotel: don't get too disappointed from the outside of this hotel, this inside has been renewed and is much better. They have decorated their rooms with Khmer style in mind, and they made each one of them unique. The prices range from 40 to 65 USD.A good choice.
- Passaggio Hotel: This is a new hotel, swiss owned. The rooms are cleaned and comfortables, it's not far from the center, and the prices are good, varying from 35 to 55 USD.
- Ankor Discover Inn: located in the east bank of the Siem Reap river, is a new entry, which the rooms has been decorated with taste and care. The outside is decorated in wood and laterite. Prices: 25-45 UDS.
- Auberge Mont Royale: Prices: 25-50 USD. This is a villa from colonial period, restructured and nicely decorated. The rooms are nice, and they all include bathroom and minibar. The breakfast is not included in the prices but it worths a try.
Top End Hotels
- FCC Angkor: very comfortable hotel, this is a so called boutique hotel (a word really popular in Asia). It has a nice restaurant, the rooms are pretty simple, but they still have all the desirable comforts. It also offer a swimming pool, and a spa. Price: 150 USD.- Le Meridien Angkor: another extra nice hotel, the closest to Angkor, so a little bit outside the town, on the road for the airport. The rooms have everything and there is a beautiful swimming pool, the ideal place to relax after visiting Angkor. Prices: 300 USD
- Ankor Palace Spa Resort: close to the airport, you can easily reach Angkor or Siem Reap from here. It's a huge hotel that offer absolutely a great value for the money. It reminds the Balinese style, the rooms are big and with all the comforts that you can desire.
Grand Hotels d'Angkor: an expensive classic hotel, since 1929 it has hosted people like Jackie Kennedy and Charlie Chaplin. Visiting this hotel is like to walk into the past, here you can have a precise idea about how the rich people of the past enjoy life in this extra luxurious environment, which is completed by an amazing garden. The rooms have everything that you can desire. The price is in line with what you get, so be prepared to spend 300-350 USD per day per room.
